Kwara Govt, RUWASSA Champion Open Defecation Free Campaign

In a bid to combat open defecation and improve public health, the Kwara State Government in collaboration with the Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) have reaffirmed their commitment to creating an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) State. The Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yinusa Lade, who was represented by the General Manager of RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Adewumi Oladipo today called for collaborative efforts of all citizens at just concluded stakeholders' engagement, aimed at achieving the goal, particularly in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of the State. Kwara Monthly Environmental Sanitation holds on Saturday

Members of the public are hereby informed that the Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise for the month of January will come up on Saturday 25th January, 2025 between the hours of seven o'clock and ten o'clock (7:00 am to 10:00 am) in the morning. Residents across the state are therefore enjoined to fully participate in the exercise, by cleaning both their residential and business environments. The statement warned members of the public that there will be no vehicular and human movements across the state, during the exercise. Kwara Govt directs temporary closure of forests to protect environment, public health

Kwara State Government has directed the temporary closure of all forests in the state with immediate effect.  This directive followed a top management meeting of the Ministry of Environment, chaired by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. The Commissioner explained that the temporary closure is a necessary step to monitor and ensure natural regeneration of the forest, which has suffered numerous human interference. Apart from illegal tree-felling for charcoal production, the sawmillers also distort the ecosystem by cutting various kinds of trees without any regard for the regeneration process or implemention of laid down procedures for refforestation, Hajia Buge said. "The Forestry Directorate will invite various stakeholders for various levels of engagements to restore normalcy and ensure our forests are not depleted without regard for its attendant implications on the overall climate of our state," according to the Commissioner. INDISCRIMINATE DUMPING OF WASTE, PUNISHABLE OFFENCE IN KWARA - BUGE

The Kwara State Government has again warned residents in the State against indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainages when facilities have been provided by the government for effective evacuation of waste to protect the health of the citizens and prevent the outbreak of preventable diseases. The Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge reiterated this while receiving the report of activities carried out by the Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) in the State, where environmental violators were apprehended at Obbo road, Irewolede and Adualere areas, all in the metropolis. The Kwara State Government has officially handed over the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) project site at Shonga in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State to the Contractor, Skylat-One Nigeria Ltd., Adegboyega Akinwumi.
