The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other development partners, has called on religious and traditional leaders to counter myths and misconceptions surrounding vaccination and promote practices that protect women and children from preventable diseases. The Kwara State Government has warned residents living around river banks across the four local government areas of Kwara North to vacate the areas in order to avoid loss of lives and properties. The Kwara State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. John Bello Olarewaju made the call during a week long sensitization programme in Moro, Edu, Patigi, Lafiagi and Kaiama Local Government Areas of the State. The statement quoted Adaramaja as saying that the affected employees would have their promotion cash-backed with effect from October this year. The Kwara State Government has approved the implementation of the corrected Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and Professional Allowance Table for nurses and allied health workers in the state. The approval was conveyed in a memo issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Kwara State Government, dated October 19, 2026, and addressed to His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State. The Kwara State Ministry of Health has organised a one-day sensitisation training on Ebola and diphtheria surveillance and reporting to strengthen disease detection, timely reporting and response among health workers and relevant stakeholders. The Director of Public Health, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, who was represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Khadeejah Kamaldeen, had in her remarks emphasized the importance of the training in improving disease surveillance, early detection and prompt reporting of suspected cases to prevent outbreaks.
