Social Vices: Kwara MOSD Seeks Collaboration with DSS

As part of measures to tackle anti-social activities in Kwara State, the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam PhD, has sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) to achieve the set goals of the Ministry. While interacting with the Director, DSS, Mr. Michael Oganwu recently, during a courtesy visit to his office in Ilorin, Hajia Imam expressed the Ministry's eagerness to partner with the DSS, to enable the state curb vices that are detrimental to its growth and progress. Kwara Plans to Collaborate with Investors, Individuals for Advanced Building Culture

KWSG Reaffirms Commitments to Maternal, Newborn Health

Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving maternal and newborn healthcare across all the 16 Local Government Areas in the state. KWSG Expresses Relief Following Emergency Landing of Training Aircraft in Ilorin

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Kwara State, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has expressed profound relief following the emergency landing of a training aircraft of the International Aviation College, Ilorin on Friday, May 23, 2025. The training aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing, resulting in non-fatal accident to the pilot and instructor. Both individuals were promptly taken to the hospital in Ilorin, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Hajia Kawu commended the swift and professional response of the college authorities and medical personnel, emphasizing the importance of emergency preparedness and strict adherence to safety protocols in aviation training institutions. Usman Yunusa Lade, recently carried out an inspection to Otte-Oja/Budo Egba Waterworks Rehabilitation Project to ascertain the pace of work, while receiving encomiums on behalf of the State Government, for the highly anticipated project. The Otte-Oja/Budo Egba Waterworks was long abandoned following the vandalism of some equipment by some suspected miscreants. Meanwhile,  the contract for its rehabilitation was recently re-awarded by the State Government to the Contractor - AEVIN Nigeria Limited Company. Hon. The Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, has implored Shegs Contracts Ltd., Alhaji Abdulsalam Muritala, handling the ongoing Oyun Waterworks rehabilitation project to be more proactive. The Commissioner stated this recently during an inspection of the project in order to have a first hand information on the status of the ongoing work. Hon. Lade said that it has become necessary to fast track work on the project considering the number of communities that depend on the facility to access potable water supply, pointing out that the waterworks supplies water to Ajase, Ijagbo, Ipe, Offa and Amberi communities respectively. Female Genital Mutilation: Kwara Embarks on Sensitisation, Warns Public Against Practice

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development has embarked on sensitisation tour of the 16 Local Government Areas in the state, to educate communities on the implications of engaging in female circumcision. The sensitisation tour was organised recently by the Ministry, in collaboration with Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) and with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).  Speaking during the sensitisation tour, the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, warned the people who are still engaging in the practice of female circumcision to desist from the act or face legal consequences, advising the public to adequately secure the future of their female children, as there are long term disadvantages of female genital mutilation. The Kwara State government has inaugurated a taskforce committee on transportation to address the proliferation of illegal garages in the State, aimed at ensuring the security of residents  and sanitizing the transportation system of Kwara. KWACReSAL Conducts Situational Assessment at Lata Grazing Reserve

The Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) project team, led by State Project Coordinator Alhaji Shamsideen Olatunbosun Aregbe has conducted an on-the-spot assessment at the Lata Grazing Reserve.  The team, which included Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Afeez Abolore Alabi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Mrs. Christianah Omolola Asonibare, inspected the seedlings and nursery site. The assessment was to evaluate the progress of work achieved at the site, inspect the seedlings delivered for planting at the project site and accelerate the nursery delivery process during the current raining season. Water Resources: KWSG Commends NACHRED for Proposing Hydropower Generation

The Kwara State Government has commended the National Centre For Hydropower Research and Development (NACHRED) in Kwara State for considering ways to establish hydropower plant to assist small scale industries in the state. The Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, gave the commendation recently while receiving the Team from NACHRED, in the Ministry. Hon. Lade, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, described the initiative as a laudable development, adding that it will serve as an alternative power supply at any of the chosen Waterworks dam in the state.  The Commissioner expressed optimism that if the plant is established, it will create more employment opportunities, boost revenue generation and reduce huge financial burden the state  government normally commit to power supply for the Waterworks.
