Kwara Govt Inaugurates Taskforce on Transportation

The Kwara State government has inaugurated a taskforce committee on transportation to address the proliferation of illegal garages in the State, aimed at ensuring the security of residents  and sanitizing the transportation system of Kwara.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, who inaugurated the committee recently, reiterated the exigency of the committee on the ongoing reforms in the transportation sector and urged members to swing into action immediately and begin the enforcement with expertise and civility.

The transportation Taskforce committee, headed by the Director of Transport, Planning and Coordination of the Ministry, Engr. Joshua Durotoye and the Secretary, Administrative Officer, Hajia Zulugambari Habeebat, with other selected representatives drawn from relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Parastatals are expected  to focus on the harmonization of ideas, while exploring their expertise to tackle the dangers posed by transporters operating illegal garages in the metropolis.

The Chairman of the taskforce committee Engr, Joshua Durotoye represented by his deputy, Engr. Mashood Babalola, with other members drawn from, the Kwara State Geographic Information Services (KWA-GIS), Ministry of Environment, Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Kwara Internal Revenue Services, (KWIRS), Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), and other management staff of the Ministry, assumed their tasks immediately and conducted the inspection of some garages.

They started from the Ahmadu Bello, G.R.A. axis to Unity/Taiwo Road, Geri-Alimi and ensured thorough enquiry on road permits, operational permits, renewals, amongst other necessary documents needed by transporters. 

During the inspection exercise, other integral aspects such as the environmental hygiene and compliance on road maintenance, waste management, toilet facilities were assessed. Others included ensuring passengers' comfort, as well as maintenance of road setbacks, while avoiding picking passengers on the road side.

Similarly, during the exercise, the team Lead, Engr. Mashood Babalola explained to all the garages that were visited, that the exercise  was not a witch-hunt but aimed at setting ethical standards that would enhance safer and commuter friendly environment, while encouraging strict obedience to the State's transportation laws.

This initiative by the State government, through the Ministry of Transportation, is another laudable stride at ensuring credibility and general overhauling of nonstandard practices in its transport system, while sustaining the best standard practice for its transportation sectors in the best interest of Kwarans.

Environmental Sanitation Holds Saturday

The Kwara State monthly environmental sanitation exercise  for the month of May, will hold on Saturday, 31st 2025 between the hours of seven o'clock and ten o'clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This was contained in a press statement issued today from the office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge.
