Social Vices: Kwara MOSD Seeks Collaboration with DSS

As part of measures to tackle anti-social activities in Kwara State, the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam PhD, has sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) to achieve the set goals of the Ministry.

While interacting with the Director, DSS, Mr. Michael Oganwu recently, during a courtesy visit to his office in Ilorin, Hajia Imam expressed the Ministry's eagerness to partner with the DSS, to enable the state curb vices that are detrimental to its growth and progress.

The Commissioner stressed the need for immediate proactive measures to steer some groups away from anti-social activities in order to prevent security threats that may arise, citing instances where some beggars were found with arms in Ilorin metropolis, which prompted the Ministry to take decisive steps to begin campaigns against acts capable of altering the peaceful environment in Kwara state.

She revealed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had also assured the Ministry of good working relationship and it assigned some officers to work with the Ministry in order to achieve its goals.

While commending the DSS for its collaboration with other security agencies in ensuring peace in the state, Hajia Imam appealed to the service not to relent in its efforts to create a safer environment in the state.

Responding, the Director of DSS, Kwara State, Mr. Michael Oganwu, commended the Commissioner for her passion for the job and commitment to place Kwara State high on the list of peaceful states in Nigeria, saying she is capable of achieving the state government's drive.

The Director stated that the visit was the beginning of a good working relationship with the Ministry and enjoined the Ministry not to hesitate to seek the services of the DSS any time the need arises, pledging its full support for the Ministry to eradicate anti-social behaviours in the state.
