…Bata Praises Ladan for Undertaking People-Oriented Projects

The Kwara State Government has commissioned a number of multi-million-naira projects executed by the Ilorin West Local Government Council under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Shehu Ladan.

The projects were commissioned on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, on behalf of the State Government by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata, who represented the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, the Chairman, Nigeria's Governors forum.

Speaking during the commissioning exercise, Hon. Bata said the projects were not only about physical infrastructure but also represented the administration's commitment to appreciating the people, responding to their needs and restoring their confidence in government.

He said the commissioning was an opportunity to appreciate the people of the benefiting Communities for their patience and to reassure them that the present administration remained committed to rewriting the negative narratives associated with governance in the past.

The Commissioner commended the Ilorin West Local Government Chairman for his leadership style, grassroots orientation and close identification with the people, noting that within the last two years, he had personally inspected and commissioned more than 100 projects executed by the Council.

Hon. Bata also appreciated the synergy between the State Government and the Local Government Councils, stressing that the numerous intervention projects being undertaken across Communities were evidence of the administration's commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.

He observed that many of the requests currently being addressed by Local Government Councils had accumulated over the years, adding that if previous administrations had responded adequately to the needs of the People, many of the demands from various Communities would not have remained unattended for so long.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 300/11KV transformer provided for Gerewu Community, the Commissioner said the project would contribute significantly to stabilising electricity supply and strengthening economic activities in the rapidly expanding Community.

He explained that stable electricity supply remained critical to the growth of businesses and other socio-economic activities, describing the intervention as another demonstration of the government's responsiveness to the needs of the People.

At Anifowose and Apaokagi Communities in Ubandawaki  Ward, Hon. Bata commissioned the newly constructed interlocking road.

He said the project went beyond facilitating the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, noting that it demonstrated that government at the grassroots was listening to its People and responding to their genuine needs.

The Commissioner also commissioned newly constructed and installed motorised Boreholes at Anifowose and Gaa-Aremu Communities.

He described the appreciation expressed by the benefiting Communities as impressive, saying that they demonstrated strong synergy between the Communities and the Local Government Area in identifying and addressing developmental challenges.

According to him, the provision of potable water remained essential to improving the quality of life of residents, particularly in Communities where access to reliable water supply had been a longstanding challenge.

At the Oja-Tuntun Market, the Commissioner commissioned the newly constructed asphalt road within the market and 29 lock-up shops.

He described the projects as landmark achievements, saying that the newly constructed road would not only improve accessibility and ease the movement of vehicles and goods but would also enhance commercial activities and demonstrate the government's commitment to the welfare of traders and marketers

He said the construction of the 29 lock-up shops through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement would provide prospective occupants with improved trading spaces while also contributing to the internally generated revenue of the Local Government Council.

The Commissioner urged the People of the various Communities to continue to support government programmes and policies, stressing that sustained delivery of the dividends of democracy required continuity and responsible participation in the democratic process.

He therefore called on the People to support the ruling party in the forthcoming general elections, saying that continuity would enable the Government to consolidate on the achievements recorded across the State and at the grassroots.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Abdulrahman Shehu Ladan, said the projects were part of the administration's commitment to fulfilling the electoral promises made to the People.

He said his administration remained responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of residents and promised to continue to prioritize projects based on the needs and requests of Communities.

Hon. Ladan appealed to Communities whose requests were yet to be attended to, to exercise patience, assuring them that their needs would be considered and addressed as funds became available.

The Chairman reiterated that his administration had never embarked on projects it did not intend to complete, stressing that all projects executed by his administration were based on genuine requests from the Communities.

He assured residents that the Council would continue to provide meaningful infrastructure and services within its available resources, in line with the administration's commitment to grassroots development.

The Commissioner was, however, accompanied during the commissioning exercise by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Iyabo Modupe Adekeye; Director of Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Akande Christiana; The Controller of Finance and Accounts, Hajia Omotayo, among other Senior officials of the Ministry.

The Executive Chairman was also accompanied by the Speaker of the Council, Honourable Councillors, Director of Personnel Management, Local Government Treasurer and other top officials of the Council.
