KWARA TO ROLL OUT ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS IN STATE HOSPITALS

...as AbdulRazaq Approves Digital Healthcare Initiative, Staff Training Begins in November

The Kwara State Government is set to introduce Electronic Medical Records (EMR) across state-owned hospitals under the HOPE-PHC Project, following approval by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, in a move to modernise healthcare delivery and improve patient care.

The initiative, being implemented through the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KW-HMB), aims to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen patient information management and advance digital transformation across the state’s public healthcare system.

The rollout builds on an earlier hospital digitalisation pilot involving six hospitals and ongoing efforts to integrate digital solutions into healthcare service delivery.

As part of the preparations, staff training is scheduled to commence in November 2026 to equip healthcare personnel with the skills required to operate the system effectively.

The initiative complements the Board’s efforts to strengthen health information management, including the inauguration of its Data Management Committee in August 2026.

Upon implementation, EMR is expected to reduce reliance on paper-based records, improve access to patients’ medical histories, promote continuity of care and support evidence-based decision-making in hospital management.

The Executive Secretary of KW-HMB, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for approving the initiative, describing it as an important milestone in the state’s drive towards a more efficient, accountable and technology-driven public healthcare system.

He noted that the adoption of electronic medical records would strengthen hospital operations, improve patient information management and support more efficient clinical encounters across Kwara State.

Dr. Malik reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and deliver more efficient, responsive and patient-centred healthcare services to the people of Kwara State.
