Needs Assessment Exercise Holds in Gwanara Community

The Needs Assessment Exercise for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in the three Senatorial Districts has also been conducted in Gwanara Community of Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, one of the selected beneficiaries for the first phase of the exercise, meant to update the state government on the educational needs of OVC in the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Oluwakemi Opeyemi Afolashade, made this known recently in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area.

Speaking at the Palace of the Emir of Gwanara, Alhaji, Dr Sabi Idris, (OFR), the  Kotokotogi II, the Commissioner, who was represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Alhassan Mu'azu, expressed satisfaction at the warm reception and enthusiasm of the Gwanara Community towards the Needs Assessment Exercise and assured them of the Ministry's continuous support for OVC programmes in the state.

The Commissioner requested full participation from the people in order to carry out the exercise, as those captured in the assessment exercise will benefit in the OVC support programme.

The Emir of Gwanara, Alhaji Sabi Idris (OFR), the Kotokotogi II, appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for making a conscious effort to promote the welfare of OVC in Gwanara community.

In his speech, the Principal of Government Secondary School, Gwanara, Mr Salihu Sabi, commended the effort of the Governor, for keeping his campaign promises and the Ministry, for the initiative to update the OVC Needs Assessment Register, as there is a great number of OVC cases in the community. 

Mr Sabi noted that even though the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and some concerned community members have been supporting them in form of PTA fees waiver and providing educational materials to these students, the attention the state government is giving OVC will bring relief to them.

  

The Principal of Government Junior Secondary School, Gwanara, Mr. Atahiru Dibusari, commended the state government for selecting Baruten Local Government Area, especially Gwanara Community, as a beneficiary, requesting further support for OVC in the state to complement the school's efforts.

The Head Teacher of Baruten LGEA Nursery and Primary School, Gwanara Central, Mr Yusuf Aliyu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to benefit from the laudable project and appreciated the AbdulRazaq-led administration for the good job done so far.
