KWSG Begins Needs Assessment Exercise Across Three Senatorial Districts

…Reaffirms Commitment to OVC programmes in the state.

The Kwara State Government has begun  Needs Assessment Exercise across the three Senatorial Districts in the state and reaffirmed its commitment to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programmes, while noting that the mandate of the Ministry of Women Affairs is to ensure the overall well-being of children and women, regardless of their vulnerability.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs.) Afolashade Oluwakemi Opeyemi, made this known recently at the Palace of the  Oloro of Oro-Ago, Oba Olanrewaju Johnson Dada, at the Needs Assessment for OVC in Oro-Ago, Ifelodun Local Government Area, a beneficiary of the programme.

Chief Afolashade, who was represented by the Controller, Finance and Account (CFA) of the Ministry, Mr Shittu Rasaq, noted that "in every society, there are always people who might not be financially stable and it is because of children who fall into this category that we are here today."

She emphasized that school materials to facilitate learning for these children would be provided after the Needs Assessment Exercise, adding that other communities in the state will also benefit from the ongoing OVC programme.

The Commissioner commended the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his commitment to the plight of OVC in the state, as providing necessary school materials will increase the interest of these children in education, reduce out of school children and improve learning outcomes.

In his remarks, the Oloro of Oro-Ago, HRM, Oba Johnson Olanrewaju Dada, expressed his gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for the infrastructural assistance provided to the community since his assumption of office, while thanking the Commissioner for extending the Needs Assessment Exercise to Oro-Ago and for her efforts in supporting the less privileged.

The Principal of ECWA Christian Commercial College (Junior), Mrs Roseline Olawoyin, thanked the AbdulRazaq-led administration for the extension of love and concern to the children in the state, confirming that the programme could not have come at a better time as there are a number of OVC and less privileged children that need the assistance from the state government to make learning easier for them.

While commending the effort of the Governor for extending such kind gesture to the community, the Principal of Ajagun Comprehensive High School, Oke-Oro, Mr. Samuel Adeyinka and the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Chief Samuel Elese, pledged their unwavering support for the success of the exercise.

Furthermore, the Headmistress of ECWA Primary School, Oro-Ago, Mrs. Bola Oloyede, commended the state government for the positive impact on children and women in the state, appealing for more efforts to further improve the learning environment in the community.
