KWEPA'S Tertiary Institution Unit Inspects UNILORIN for Environmental Compliance
As part of its mandate to ensure safe and healthy learning environment across tertiary institutions in Kwara State, the Tertiary Institution Unit of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has recently conducted an environmental compliance inspection at the permanent site of the University of Ilorin.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the institution's adherence to established environmental regulations, with particular focus on sanitation and waste management practices. During the exercise, the team identified several areas of concern and called on the University authorities to urgently address the observed environmental infractions in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of students, staff, and the broader community.
Representing the General Manager of KWEPA, Hon. Jide Aina, the inspection team was led by Mrs. Hassan Fatimoh, who reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to fostering clean, safe, and sustainable environments across all educational institutions in the State.
In his response, the Director of Health Services at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Abdulrashid Adekeye Odunola, expressed the institution's readiness to cooperate fully with KWEPA and assured the team of UNILORIN’s commitment to strengthening existing environmental protocols and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
In a related development, KWEPA’s School Health Unit also carried out a series of inspections to private schools within Ilorin to evaluate their compliance with environmental and hygiene standards. These inspections form part of the Agency’s ongoing statewide initiative to promote public health and ensure that all academic institutions operate in environments conducive for learning and development.
KWEPA remains steadfast in its mission to protect public health and the environment through proactive engagement, regular monitoring, and strict enforcement of environmental regulations.
