KWSG Seeks Partnership with FMHPR to Strengthen Social Protection Systems

In a bid to strengthen social protection systems in the state, the Kwara State Government has sought partnership with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Reduction, saying this will also boost opportunities for the vulnerable population in the state.

The State Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam PhD, sought the partnership recently during a familiarisation visit to the office of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja.

While disclosing that the visit was embarked upon to complement the state government’s commitments to ensuring social protection of the citizenry, the Commissioner added that it was also meant to acquaint the Federal Ministry with the routine of the State Ministry of Social Development so as to foster collaboration to effectively achieve its mandate.

"The primary objective of this engagement is to formally introduce the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, explore areas of strategic collaboration, and align Kwara State’s social intervention programmes with federal poverty alleviation frameworks”, Hajia Imam said.

"This engagement marks a significant step in our quest to bridge policy gaps, optimize funding opportunities, and deliver sustainable impact for Kwarans. We remain committed to fostering strategic alliances that uplift the underserved", she disclosed.

The Commissioner highlighted the state government's developmental strides under the leadership of the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, such as inclusive social welfare, women and youth empowerment, and grassroots poverty reduction, expressing optimism that the visit would yield positive results.

Responding, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Yilwatda, expressed deep admiration for Kwara State’s progressive strides, describing the present administration as “a beacon of inclusive governance."

Prof. Yilwatda commended the state's community-based approach to humanitarian interventions and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with Kwara State in order to collectively realise the set goals for its Ministry.

The Honourable Minister however cited accountability mechanisms and alignment of the Ministry of Social Development with national development goals as key strengths to achieving its mandate.
