Kwara's LGAs Rated High on Provision of Quality Projects

The Kwara State Government has once again rated all Local Government Councils highly in the execution of impactful, people-oriented projects in their respective Councils, ensuring that dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Bata, stated this during the completion of the phase one inspection of projects executed by all Local Government Councils at the Baruten and Kaiama Council Secretariats yesterday.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Ministry has been fulfilling its cabinet responsibility by monitoring the activities of Councils. He expressed satisfaction with their performance in providing basic social amenities and community-based interventions, as attested by the commendations and appreciation from the benefiting communities.

He attributed the Councils’ successes to the foresight of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has ensured true autonomy for the Councils. “The Councils under the present administration have been repositioned and strengthened to deliver on their mandate without interference from the State Government or any of its apparatus,” he reiterated.

Speaking at various project sites in Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas, the Commissioner thanked the Executive Chairmen for prioritising the immediate needs of their constituents over personal interests.

Hon. Bata, an indigene of Kwara North, said he was well aware of the neglect the region suffered under past administrations. However, with the coming of the present administration, the narrative has positively changed, as the people now feel included in governance and its benefits.

The Executive Chairman of Kaiama, who is also the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, disclosed that the Councils have resolved to justify the confidence reposed in them and surpass their predecessors in delivering good governance at the grassroots to complement the achievements of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON).

The ALGON Chairman thanked the Governor for his prompt interventions and the restoration of relative peace across the Councils in response to recent security challenges caused by the influx of criminal elements from neighbouring countries and states.

Hon. Danladi noted that the first phase of projects had been completed across all Councils, with another phase already ongoing for the benefit of citizens.

He emphasised that every project embarked on would be fully resourced to ensure completion, saying the era of incomplete or abandoned projects is over. Projects have now been divided into phases to ensure timely delivery.

In a landmark development, the ALGON Boss invited the Commissioner for the official commissioning of the long-abandoned and dilapidated office accommodation opposite the Council Secretariat. He announced that the building, which formerly housed Council staff as well as some Federal and State Government agencies, has now been rehabilitated, furnished, and equipped with necessary tools for users’ comfort.

Earlier, during his inspection of various project sites, the Executive Chairman of Baruten, Hon. Issa Jubril, disclosed that all projects executed were based on community requests, including the provision of water, healthcare, education, and more.

Projects inspected in Baruten included the construction of motorised solar boreholes at Tumbuya and Been communities; construction of a block of two classrooms with offices at Baruten LGEA School at Fonfon and Old Kiyoru; installation and drilling of 22 hand-pump boreholes across various communities; construction of a Primary Health Centre at Budo-Aiki; and the renovation and complete overhaul of the Legislative Chambers at the Council Secretariat, among others.

Projects inspected in Kaiama included the reconstruction of halls at GDSS Kaiama and Tasude Secondary Schools; complete fencing with a gate at LGEA Primary School, Aboki; construction of two classrooms with an office at Grinchenji, Sabon Fili, and Gondo Danladi Community School; drilling and installation of transformers at Adena and Wuruma-Koto communities; and the drilling and installation of solar-powered motorised boreholes at the Army locations in Kaiama and Kemanji, among others.
