KWSG Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Peaceful Collaboration Across Selected Nigeria–Benin Borders

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening peace and security collaboration in Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Kwara, and Niger States.
This was disclosed today during the stakeholders’ meeting organised by the State Peace Architecture (SPA), under the Search for Common Ground Nigeria, held at the conference room of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
The Chairman, State Peace Architecture, who doubles as the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Oluwakemi Afolashade, said the meeting is a collective step towards a safer and more peaceful future for Kwara communities.
The Chairman, who was represented by the Acting Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Adenike Akanni, said, “We are here because we share a common goal: to build resilient structures that promote dialogue, prevent violence, and ensure inclusive and sustainable peace in our communities.”
Commending Search for Common Ground Nigeria, Chief Afolashade urged all stakeholders at the meeting to engage in meaningful dialogue.
The Co-chairman, SPA, Pastor Ade Bodunde, urged all stakeholders to work towards actionable plans to ensure the security of Kwara State.
Responding, the Co-chairman, Local Peace Architecture (LPA), Ibrahim Bawa, gave a progress report on security issues in Baruten, commending the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his responsiveness to security issues in the area, while soliciting enhanced border security meetings at the local level.
Earlier, the State Project Officer, Search for Common Ground Nigeria, Dr Deborah Obor, emphasised the need to strengthen the existing peace structure through continuous engagement of all stakeholders to address issues of security in the state, noting that peace is cross-cutting.
Also present at the meeting were the Director, Legislative Matters, Kwara State House of Assembly, Ishiak Yaru Yakubu; Deputy Commandant, HOU Peace & Conflict; Global Hope for Women and Children (GLOHWOC), Dr Christy Abayomi Oluwole; among others.
