KWSG Pledges Continued Support for Cultural Promotion

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting, expanding, and promoting culture and traditions in the state with a view to boosting its revenue through cultural tourism.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bola Olukoju made the reiteration at the weekend in Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area, during the celebration of the 2025 annual Orugbo/Ite-Oba festival in the town.

The Commissioner, who spoke through the Director of Information Services of the Ministry, Alhaji Olayinka Jimoh Salau, explained that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is passionate about preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the state.

According to her,"we believe that culture is not just a relic of the past-it is a dynamic force that binds us, inspires us, and propels our growth as a people".

She also disclosed that the government is working tirelessly to document, promote, and project the state's cultural festivals to national and international levels, emphasizing that the state's culture deserves global recognition.

"Through the Ministry of Communications, we have continued to support festivals like this, recognizing them as avenues for unity, economic empowerment, youth engagement, and tourism development. 

"So, as we promote digital innovation and modern governance, we are equally committed to preserving the very roots that define us", Olukoju stated further.

The Commissioner, who praised the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Oladele Adeoti, for preserving his community's heritage, maintained that the celebration of Orugbo festival serves as a reminder of the dignity, leadership, and spiritual essence of traditional institutions.
Hon. Olukoju encouraged young people to embrace cultural heritage, learn their history, speak their dialect, and participate actively in their cultural festivals, maintaining that the future of their culture lies in their hands.

Earlier, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Oladele Adeoti, Olomu Efon II, had appreciated the state government for its support on the successful hosting of the 2025 annual Orugbo/Ite-Oba festival in Omu-Aran.

Oba Adeoti specifically commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for being a chief promoter of culture, heritage, and tradition in the state, adding that the government support was a big boost for the successful hosting of the festival.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu Tinuola and the National President of Omu-Aran Development Association (O.D.A), Mr. Niyi Adeyeye both appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for extending the state government's financial support to the Orugbo festival for the first time and urged him to sustain the tempo.

A major highlight of the annual socio-cultural festival, which attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, was the once in a year public traditional dance by the Olomu, led by the Eesa Omu of Omu-Aran, High Chief AbdulRazaq Oyinloye, afterwhich the custodian of Ogbo and the Onigemo of Omu-Aran, High Chief (Barr.) Ademola Ajiboye offered special prayers for the Olomu, all sons and daughters of Omu-Aran both at home and in the Diaspora, and other residents of the community for growth, progress and development.
