KWEPA Seals off Another Residential Building over Environmental Infractions
The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has again sealed off a three storey building over environmental infractions by occupants of the building.
The building which houses thirty rooms, is located at Gaa-Imam, behind Adisco International Works Company Ilorin, and was sealed off at about 12:30 pm on Tuesday for lack of toilet facilities.
The Acting General Manager of the Agency, Hajia Idayat Folorunsho Adeola, who was represented by Sanitarian Nusirat Oyewole Temitope led the enforcement team. She explained that the Agency had received complaints from residents of the area that occupants of the building often discharge human excreta to their compound through the filled up latrine, thereby causing offensive odour to the entire community.
Folorunsho who expressed displeasure over the act of the occupants of the building, described it as very harmful to the health of residents of the community.
She explained that the decision to seal off the building was to enforce compliance with environmental laws and avert the imminent danger of the outbreak of infectious diseases in the area.
She, therefore, urged tenants, caretakers and house owners to always work together to ensure proper maintenance of their residences by making provision for necessary facilities needed for the well being of occupants.
