Kwara Marks World Culture Day with Call for Cultural Unity and Development

The Office of the Kwara State Head of Service has joined the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) and the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Speaking on behalf of the Head of Service, the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, Dr. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, emphasised the significance of RATTAWU’s role in promoting cultural identity and shaping social values in Nigeria.

“RATTAWU is renowned for its work in public enlightenment and for promoting democratic and cultural values,” Dr. Shittu stated.

Delivering the keynote address at the celebration themed “Strengthening Peace Through Cultural Dialogue and Diversity” held at the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture Hall, Gerin Alimi, Ilorin, Dr. Shittu highlighted key cultural development initiatives championed by the state government.

She noted that as part of its integrated approach to socio-economic and cultural development, the Kwara State Government constructed the access road to the Esie Museum, Nigeria’s first museum, to improve cultural tourism.

In further efforts to boost the creative industry, she revealed that the state has embarked on constructing the first purpose-built Contemporary Film and Arts Institute in West Africa.

“We believe the Visual Arts Centre will position Kwara as a hub for creative and entertainment industries. Projects such as the Sugar Factory Film Village are also geared towards preserving and promoting our cultural heritage,” she added.

Dr. Shittu commended the RATTAWU leadership for its dedication and called for continued collaboration with the state government to consolidate ongoing development efforts.

Also speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Muka Ray Eyiwumi, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising cultural infrastructure and for his commitment and support for the creative and cultural sector in the state.

“His Excellency has consistently shown commitment to reviving and repositioning Kwara’s cultural heritage. His investment in cultural infrastructure is a testament to his vision for a more vibrant and united society,” he said.

The event featured vibrant cultural displays and the presentation of a cultural gift to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The Kwara State Civil Service Commission will conduct oral interviews for shortlisted medical and healthcare candidates on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 , and Thursday, 22 May 2025 , beginning at 8:00 a.m. each day at the Commission’s headquarters on Ahman Patigi Road, GRA, Ilorin. Environmental Sanitation Holds Saturday

The Kwara State monthly environmental sanitation exercise  for the month of May, will hold on Saturday, 31st 2025 between the hours of seven o'clock and ten o'clock (7:00am to 10:00am) in the morning.  This was contained in a press statement issued today from the office of the state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge. As usual, the statement enjoined residents to participate fully in the sanitation exercise, by clearing and cleaning both their residential and business environments.  According to the press statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry  Mrs Shakirat Muritala; "there will be no vehicular and human movement across the state, during the period of the exercise."
