Kwara Fast Becoming a Leading State for Agriculture – Dr. Abolore

Kwara is fast emerging as one of Nigeria’s most agriculturally vibrant State, driven by the commitment and strategic investments of the present administration.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Kwara State, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, made this known while receiving the leadership of the Federation of Agricultural Commodities Association of Nigeria (FACAN), Kwara State chapter, in his office. The delegation, led by the State Coordinator, Alhaji Nasir Yusuf, included Chairmen and Secretaries of all registered commodity associations operating in the State.

He emphasized that the results of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s agricultural reforms are becoming increasingly visible across the sector. According to him, the administration has remained consistent in delivering on its promises—particularly in providing timely input support, improving access to information and strengthening structural support for farmers.

“Kwara is blessed with an array of peculiar crops that distinguish it from other states. Many neighbouring states rely on us for quality seeds, crops, and farm inputs,” Dr. Abolore stated. “While this demand is a mark of our strength, the State is now putting systems in place to manage the outflow, ensuring that our farmers benefit first and that Kwara can harness more revenue from its agricultural assets.”

He further noted that agriculture remains a key pillar in the administration’s development blueprint and called on commodity associations to deepen their collaboration with the government, not just in agriculture but also in broader rural development efforts.

Responding on behalf of the delegation, FACAN State Coordinator, Alhaji Nasir Yusuf, commended the Kwara State Government for the steady transformation across the State, particularly in agriculture. He described the renewed focus on the sector as a sign of greater days ahead, assuring the Commissioner of the association’s continued partnership and alignment with government priorities.

FACAN is the umbrella body for commodity associations involved in the production, processing, and marketing of key crops such as shea butter, soybeans, sugarcane, rice, and groundnuts, among others. The association plays a vital role in coordinating value chain development, linking farmers with markets, and advocating for supportive policies.

While thanking the association for their continued support and solidarity, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Funke Sokoya, assured FACAN of the Ministry of Agriculture’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that will advance Kwara’s agricultural and rural development. She appreciated their dedication and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to a strong and productive partnership.

The meeting reaffirmed the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to unlock the full potentials of Kwara’s agricultural landscape.
