Govt Reiterates Commitments to Childcare, Protections

The Kwara State Government has again reiterated commitments to childcare and protection in the state, warning it will not take lightly issues inimical to the protection and safeguard the welfare of Kwara children.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Afolashade Justina Oluwakemi Opeyemi made stated this in Ilorin today, during the inauguration of the State Technical Working Groups on Alternative Care for Children in Kwara State, at the conference room of the ministry.

Hon. Afolashade disclosed that the National Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria is a national document, which was developed to provide harmonized standards and guidance for the care and protection of children.

While inaugurating the technical group, she reiterated that it was a step in the right direction, affirming it will go a long way in preserving the glorious future of Kwara children.

Hon Afolashade further elaborated that the Ministry is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating matters that concerns women and children in the state, therefore pledged an unalloyed supports of the Ministry and assured the group of her open door policy whenever the need arises.  

Earlier in her remarks, the Director, Child Development, Hajia Idiat Alabi commended the group, adding that, the inauguration of the committee marks a significant step towards ensuring every child has access to safe nurturing and supportive environment.

In his opening remarks, the Assistant National Secretary of Child Protection Network in Nigeria, Barrister Michael Awo Ejeh explained that the core objective of the inaugurated committee was orientation and planning of meetings, develop their work plan and also identify advocacy groups they would work with.
