Governor AbdulRazaq Receives Award of Honour as Kwara Celebrates 2025 World Cultural Day

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has been honoured with a special meritorious award for advancing the cultural heritage of the state, as part of activities marking the 2025 World Cultural Day celebration in Ilorin.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, Dr. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, praised the Governor for his consistent support for cultural growth in the state and expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition.
The award was presented by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Aramide Eyiwumi Muka Ray, in collaboration with the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture.
Hon. Muka Ray, who appreciated the turnout of guests from within and outside the state, promised a bigger and better celebration next year. He also applauded the efforts of the State Government and the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture in uniting stakeholders to preserve Kwara’s cultural identity. He noted that the Council’s Arts and Crafts Department is working diligently to showcase Kwara’s uniqueness to the world.
The former Executive Director of the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Adebisi Abraham Oyewole, thanked the State Government for its steadfast support of cultural heritage and urged parents to speak their mother tongues to their children. He warned that the continued dominance of foreign languages, especially English, is eroding Nigerian cultural norms and values.
During his vote of thanks, the Council Secretary, Mr. Aliu Jamiu, expressed gratitude to the State Government and unveiled a new set of modern dance costumes presented to the Harmony Troupe. He appreciated all invited guests and thanked God for the successful celebration of the 2025 World Cultural Day.
Other recipients of awards at the event included the Honourable Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju; Gardon Arewa, represented by Bilmahz Varieties; Alh. Adeniyi Dankazeem, former Director of Public Orientation, Ministry of Communications; and Mrs. Adeola Olanipekun, former Acting Director of the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture.
Prizes were awarded to winners in the traditional fashion parade competition. Christianah Abolaji Bashirat received the first position as the best dressed in Oduduwa attire. The second position went to Amina, best dressed in Fulani attire, while Umar Aisha received the third position, best dressed in Baruba attire.
Highlights of the event included an exhibition of local cuisines such as eko, akara elepo, pap, amala, masa and zobo.
Also in attendance at the event were the Chairman of the House Committee on Health in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Seun Oguniyi; Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye; the Olusin of Isanlu Isin, Oba Dr. Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede; the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Ministry of Communications, Mrs. Yahaya Salamat, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Communications; General Manager of Radio Kwara, Mr. Kayode Alabi; and the General Manager of the Herald Newspaper, Mr. Yomi Adeboye, among others.
