In a bold move to transform agriculture and drive inclusive economic growth, the Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development has reaffirmed its commitment to repositioning the livestock sector as a vital contributor to food security, wealth creation, and peaceful co-existence.

Speaking at the Ministry’s quarterly press briefing held in Ilorin recently, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas, highlighted strategic initiatives and key achievements under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq aimed at making Kwara the livestock hub of North Central Nigeria.

“The creation of this Ministry is a visionary move by His Excellency to harness the enormous potential within the livestock value chain. Our goal is to build a modern, inclusive, and sustainable livestock sector that generates jobs, reduces poverty, and fosters peace,” the Commissioner stated.

While highlighting the Ministry's achievements within the quarter under review, the Commissioner disclosed that the government had rehabilitated the moribund Milk Collection Centres at Kaiama and Lata Grazing Reserve to support dairy productivity and market access.

She added that the installation of solar-powered cold chain facilities at the Akerebiata Abattoir was carried out to ensure 24-hour operations and enhanced food safety.

Apart from the sinking of boreholes at strategic locations, including the School for Special Needs and Egbejila, the Commissioner revealed that the present administration had established 10 ruminant farming clusters across the three senatorial districts, explaining that each was equipped with solar-powered boreholes, animal sheds, and pasture demonstration sites.
