KWSG TO INTENSIFY EFFORTS ON ROAD SAFETY, COMPLIANCE - Lafia

The Kwara State Government has again expressed its readiness to further intensify efforts on the proper maintenance of road safety measures, strengthening compliance and ensuring adequate sustainability of the ongoing renewed transportation system in the State.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Kwara State, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, disclosed this, while addressing Kwarans, today, on a radio programme at the Radio Kwara Midland FM, 99.1, Ilorin.

Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, who highlighted some of the mandates of the Ministry to include, maintenance of public roads and enforcement of traffic laws, proper planning and coordination of transport system among others, said the government will not relent in its effort to ensure compliance and orderliness among road users for safety of lives and properties.

Hon. Lafia, stressed that the Ministry's recent joint taskforce exercise against road side garages and parks was to stop their illegal operations, causing obstruction to the free flow of both human and vehicular movements in some areas of the State and to ensure maximum security of commuters against the antics of non-state actors operating in some parts of the State, recently.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the State already had plans to deploy a digital means of vehicle registration, which he said will boost monitoring, tracking and identification of vehicle plates, particulars, and transporters; thus, enhancing the security architecture of the transportation system in Kwara State.

He promised that work is underway for the wide spread of operations of both the Kwara Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) and Vehicle Inspection Office, to all the Local Government Areas of the State, as KWARTMA already had its office respectively at Bode-Saadu, Kwara North and Offa, Kwara South, underscoring Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's led-administration's priority for equity and well-being of Kwarans.

Speaking on other transportation components, rail and water ways, the State Commissioner for Transportation, revealed that plans are underway, as some of its enforcement officers are presently under studying the traffic management systems of some states  to ensure Kwara has reliable and sustainable templates, capable of changing the narrative of its transportation system for the best.

Meanwhile, Lafia ascribed some of the challenges causing set back to the State's progress on transportation to lack of patriotism and cooperation among residents and some members of the public, noting that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's urban road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects was not just for its beatification but to ensure conducive environment for pedestrians and transporters.

He therefore called on citizens for patience and collaboration with the State Government in the ongoing transportation development in the State, for its long time advantage, and to achieve the desired success for all.
