KWSG Inaugurates 7-Member Committee to Boost Farmers' Representation, Support

In a strategic move to improve agricultural development in Kwara, the State Government has inaugurated a 7-member Interim Caretaker Committee today to officially represent farmers across the State. The initiative is aimed at building greater trust in the government’s intervention programmes and enhancing the efficiency of agricultural support systems.

The committee members were carefully selected from all regions of the State, based on their merit, grassroots involvement in agriculture, and dedication to the sector. The gender-balanced composition underscored the Governor’s directive to empower women within the agricultural space.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development headquarters in Ilorin today was attended by Ministry officials, members of the newly inaugurated caretaker committee, heads of agricultural bodies and associations, including members of the general public. 

Representing the State government, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, charged the newly inaugurated committee to uphold the principles of integrity, fairness, and service to the people.

“This committee is not just symbolic—it is strategic,” Dr. Alabi stated, stressing the administration’s determination to ensure that the right support reaches farmers at the right time. He outlined the committee’s key responsibilities, including verifying the authenticity of beneficiaries, curbing the diversion of agricultural inputs, and collaborating with enforcement agencies to ensure transparency. He emphasized that the committee must also serve as a vital bridge between the government and farmers, particularly with the planting season approaching.

Dr. Alabi further praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers across the State. He emphasized that under the leadership of the Governor, the committee's work will play a crucial role in driving agricultural excellence and charged the committee to deliver exceptional service, ensuring that every intervention reaches its intended beneficiaries.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Mallam Abdullahi Ibu Ahmed, expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in them by the State government. He highlighted the responsibility they bear and reassured the public of their commitment to transparency, fairness, and equitable distribution of resources. Mallam Ahmed pledged that the committee would prioritize the needs of farmers and work to meet the expectations of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Funke Sokoya, emphasized the significance of the committee’s formation as a proactive measure to enhance coordination within the agricultural sector. She outlined the  critical roles of the committee in ensuring the efficient delivery of government interventions to farmers and congratulated the members on their appointment.

Other dignitaries in attendance included the Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Baba Mohammed, and the State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Alhaji Samsudeen Olatunbosun Aregbe, along with other key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

With the planting season just around the corner, the newly inaugurated committee is ready to hit the ground running.Their efforts will be pivotal in ensuring that Kwara’s farmers are well-supported, empowered, and equipped to make the most of the season ahead.

Kwara Govt Okays Conditional Re-opening of Forest for Sawmilers

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the re-opening of forests in the State for sawmilling and forestry related activities with conditions aimed at preserving the forests as crucial natural resources for generations to come.  The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, as part of the government's position while interacting with officials and key-stakeholders of saw millers, chainsaw operators and plank sellers in the State today.
