El-Imam Lauds Local Government’s TB Champions
....Urges residents to report suspected cases for prompt treatment...
The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam has appreciated the Spouses of the Local Government Heads for their efforts in tackling tuberculosis in their various communities.
The Commissioner made the statement on Monday during the investiture ceremony of the Oyun Local Government Tuberculosis Champion held at the Onijagbo of Ijagbo’s Palace, Oyun Local Government Area.
According to her, the importance of the investiture cannot be over emphasized because the champions are more closer to the people and more likely to convey the message better while enlightening them.
Dr El-Imam charged residents of Ijagbo and other communities in Oyun Local Government Area to be vigilant and report individuals showing symptoms of Tuberculosis (TB) to the nearest government health facility.
She stated that the approach is aimed at curbing the spread of the disease and ensure early detection and treatment as she emphasized the importance of utilizing government healthcare interventions, including medical outreaches, immunization programmes, and visits to public health facilities, to protect the community from TB and other infectious diseases.
The Health Commissioner urged all residents to support the campaign by spreading awareness and ensuring that anyone showing symptoms of Tuberculosis such as persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, and fever should seek immediate medical attention at the nearest government approved facilities.
Dr. El-Imam reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to making quality healthcare services accessible to all residents.
She commended Local Government Councils and traditional rulers for their continued role as health advocates, encouraging them to remain proactive in the fight against TB.
The Chairman of Oyun Local Government, Hon. Kamal Olanrewaju Akanbi expressed deep appreciation for the State government’s efforts in tackling Tuberculosis most notably at the grassroots.
He assured that his administration is committed to supporting Tuberculosis elimination initiatives and enhancing public health in the local government area.
