The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has commended the unwavering support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in driving the institution’s ongoing transformation, including infrastructure development, academic advancements, and staff welfare initiatives. 

Dr. Abdul made this known Wednesday  during an exclusive interview on *Network Kwara*, a live television programme sponsored by the Kwara State Ministry of Communications.

The Rector highlighted the Governor’s contributions to the renovation of key facilities, including the Admiral Muhammed Lawal Auditorium, the Institute of Technology facilities, and Medical Diagnostic Centre, which had been abandoned for years. 

He recalled that upon assuming office in November 2019, the institution was preparing to host the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), but the poor condition of the hostels necessitated a postponement of the event to February 2020.

" With the support of Governor AbdulRazaq, my administration embarked on a comprehensive renovation of the hostel area, which had been abandoned for nearly seven years. Overgrown bushes were cleared, vandalized electrical cables were replaced, and non-functional toilet facilities were repaired to make the hostels habitable. The renovation also included the replacement of louvers, repairs of hostel roofs across 17 blocks, and repainting of the buildings," he disclosed.

Dr Abdul also announced the introduction of new academic programmes, including Railway Engineering, Computer Engineering, Food Science, and Mechatronics, as part of efforts to align with global trends and meet industry demands.

He identified the  establishment of Kwarapoly commercial farm as part of the institution’s expansion and innovation efforts.

On staff welfare, Dr. Abdul revealed that seven promotion exercises have been conducted since 2017/2018, with the eighth (2024) currently in progress. He assured that the 2024 promotions would be completed within the first quarter, after which the 2025 promotion exercise would commence immediately. To further support staff well-being, the Rector introduced an annual medical test for all employees, provided free of charge, and organized health workshops to educate staff on proper health management.

Dr. Abdul also disclosed that Kwara State Polytechnic is fostering partnerships with key organizations to enhance academic and industrial collaboration. These include the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) for agricultural commercial farming, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and Mantrac CAT.

The Rector expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent support, which has enabled the polytechnic to achieve significant milestones in infrastructure, academics, and staff welfare. He reiterated the institution’s commitment to sustaining its transformation and contributing to the development of Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
