KWSG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO ERADICATING SOCIAL VICES

The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its readiness to eradicate social irresponsibility, crimes, gender-based violence and juvenile misconducts in order to ensure safety of all residents.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Nnafatima Imam Mariam, PhD stated this recently during her visit to Juvenile Remand Home, Oko-Erin, the Correctional Centre, Saboline and the Olorunda Psychiatric Home, all in Ilorin, the State Capital.

The Commissioner assured that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents through the eradication of gender-based violence, social vices, street begging and other criminal offenses.

She noted that necessary support will be given to all the Correctional Homes to ensure smooth running of the facilities for efficient discharge of duties, adding that Entrepreneurship will be introduced  to the homes to ensure that the children learn skills that would make them responsible  members of the society upon their release.

Hon. Mariam appreciated the Governor for the massive renovation of the Homes, having been dilapidated and less functional before his assumption of office and counselled the inmates at the Juvenile Home to shun social vices, violence  and in some cases murder, noting that the sky is their limit and they can achieve anything in life if they eschew crimes.

The Permanent  Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale, admonished the children to turn a new leaf and become useful members of the society if they get pardon.

Meanwhile,  the Heads of the Homes took turns to appreciate the State Government for its continued support  especially,  in the area of renovation of the facilities and provision of materials for efficient running of the homes.

They, however, appealed to the State Government to introduce digitalization for the operations of the facilities in order to ensure seamless running of the homes.
