Commissioner Organizes Training for Officers of New PR Unit

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, Tuesday, organized a one day training seminar for officers of the newly created Public Relations Unit (PR) in the Ministry, aimed at correcting any misinformation within the public space. 

The Commissioner, who was represented at the training  session by the Director of Information Services, Alhaji Jimoh  Salau, commended the bold initiative, noting that the training of the officers would ensure optimal performance of their duties.

Also speaking during the training, the Director of Public Orientation in the Ministry,  Mr. Ademola Olarewaju emphasized the importance of the training and information managers to avoid bias and unnecessary controversial issues capable of heating up the polity. 

The Guest Lecturer, Dr. Enoch Opaleke, who is also the Head of Strategic Communication Unit at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kwara State Chapter, spoke extensively on "Distinctive Functions of Public Relations Officers in a Contemporary Media Space".

He described the functions of PR as crucial to any organization, calling on the unit to function strategically by communicating government policies and programmes effectively, targeted at creating factual and reliable information for the public.

Dr. Opaleke commended the Commissioner for creating the PR unit with the mandate to generate data, analyse trends on radio stations, and monitor audience feedback to formulate government policies and programmes.

He, however, pointed out that genuine and factual information will foster progressive relationships between the government and the people, laying the foundation for a robust citizens' engagement.

Delivering another lecture at the training, a Chief Information Officer in the Ministry, Dr. Fatima Amuda, in her paper titled: "Functions of PR Officers on Data Gathering, Analysis and Reporting", emphasized the need for the establishment of cordial relationships as an antidote against mistrust in the public space which could eventually lead to crisis.

She encouraged officers of the PR unit to always observe due diligence in the discharge of their duties, urging them to demonstrate high levels of professionalism in timely reportage while identifying flash points for quick interventions as appropriate. 

The Head of the newly created PR unit, Mallam Mohammed Baba, thanked the Commissioner for the establishment of the unit, assuring that they would do all within their power to sustain and maintain the brand and image of both the Ministry and the State as a whole.

Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) said applicants for the public school teaching jobs can now check the results of the CBT done earlier on Saturday.  TESCOM Chairman Mallam Bello Taoheed said all the applicants who sat the test can access their results on the portal. "This is the first step after the exams. The Commission will soon release the cutoffs that would determine the candidates who proceed to the interview stage, among other things," he said. Kwara TESCOM Opens Application Portal for Teaching Jobs
