Commissioner Charges Residents on Clean, Healthy Environment

Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, has charged residents to sustain a clean and healthy environment at all times and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse at unauthorized dump sites, to ensure healthy living and rid society of communicable diseases.

The Commissioner stated this in Ilorin today, while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, in the metropolis.

Buge who was represented by the Director Environment, Mrs Mary Mustapha explained that this month sanitation exercise was modified, to allow human and vehicular movements due to the fact that applicants from Teaching Service Commission sitting for Computer Based Test (CBT), were invited for a scheduled examination, conducted by the state, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

Buge therefore  appealed to residents to clean their homes, as well as business environments, in order to sustain a cleaner Kwara.

During the house to house inspection, the Environmental Health Officers (EHO/Wolewole in Yoruba parlance), led by Mrs Mary Mustapha combed through Oja Oba, Gambari and Oja Gbooro market in Ilorin, the state capital, on inspection of level of compliance, a tea seller was accosted and was asked to clean his stall, which he immediately complied .

The EHO therefore Mrs Mutiat Olateju, therefore pledged to be more dedicated to duties and be further proactive.

On the Commissioner's entourage at this month's Environmental Sanitation Exercise were; the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply (DPFS), Mr Taiwo Okanlawon, Director Forestry, Mr Babatunde Mahmood, Head of Department (HOD),Climate Change Mr Illias Abdulganiyy and other Principal Staffs of the Ministry.
