Kwara L-PRES Trains Secondary School Students on Feeds Processing

The Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) in partnership with Bursar Investment Company Limited has organised a Step-down training for secondary school students on small ruminants production and feed processing for animal utilisation.

The programme held at Gaa Imam area in ilorin, was part of the move to sensitize the youths at the secondary school level on the benefits of livestock business in improving economic livelihood of people.

While addressing the students, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye said the L-PRES Project was at addressing the challenges confronting livestock farmers by improving the productivity, commercialisation, and resilience of farmers to climate change, environmental degradation and farmers/herders conflict in livestock production systems.

The Coordinator disclosed that the project was aimed at changing the orientation of the people, especially the livestock farmers to the modern ways of doing livestock business and to expose students to the potentials of agriculture as the only sector capable of employing every citizen of the country.

Mr. Oyawoye said one of the core mandates of the L-PRES Project is to strengthen the human resources capacity of the livestock sector for enhancing productivity, resilience and value chain performance, hence, the need to sensitize the students through real life practical training to prepare them for the future.

In his contribution, the Project Extension Officer, Mr. Nureni AbdulRasaq encouraged the participants to take interest in agriculture as a career because of the numerous opportunities in the sector

Earlier, the organizer of the training, Alhaji Amuda Busari said he was motivated by the impact of the capacity building training organised by L-PRES Project for selected livestock farmers and extension agents and the need to spread the knowledge acquired from the training to the grassroot most especially to the young people in the State to encourage them to venture into agric business.

Alhaji Busari further thanked the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and L-PRES Project for giving them the opportunity to benefit from such initiatives.

In her remarks, the Agricultural Science teacher of the Government Day Junior Secondary School (GDJSS), Kulende, Ilorin, Mrs. Ogunwale Kafilat who is one of the beneficiaries of the L-PRES training on small ruminants production and crop residue processing, assured the State government of the effective utilisation of the knowledge gained by the students for enhanced livestock production in the State.

Highlights of the training was the practical session on feed formulation and production with the machine provided by the L-PRES Project.

Kwara to employ 1,800 new senior class teachers
