KWSG Breaks Silence on Cholera Outbreak

The Kwara State Government has finally broken silence over the rumoured cholera outbreak, even as it confirmed cases of gastroenteritis, there by alleviating concerns over potential cholera outbreak, in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-lmam, stated this in her address today, during a press briefing, held at the Emergency Operation Center of the State Ministry of Health, Ilorin.

Dr. El-lmam announced that the state government has activated its outbreak response mode, involving all relevant ministries, to monitor and manage the situation. “The state's surveillance team is actively working to prevent further spread of the disease.” She added.

"The present administration has deployed all necessary equipment and qualified professionals to prevent possible outbreak. It is however important for members of the public to maintain good health practices, maintain clean environment, proper hand washing, boiling of water before drinking and ensuring food security, at all times.

Dr. El-lmam further disclosed that, information recently gathered indicated few suspected cases of cholera, however rapid diagnostic tests have ruled out cholera, but confirmed cases of gastroenteritis, which has resulted to one casualty, while other patients are responding to treatments.

The Commissioner finally reassured the public that the situation is already under control.
