KWSG ASSURES RESIDENTS OF ADEQUATE BASIC SOCIAL AMENITIES

The Kwara State Government has reassured residents of the state of its continuous commitment to providing them with essential basis social amenities for the comfort of all and sundry.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade gave the assurance in his office when the Representatives of Ibolo Consumers Advocacy Association of Nigeria, Offa, paid him a courtesy visit in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Commissioner stated that the state government is fully aware of the potable water supply challenge being faced by the people of Offa and Oyun axis.

Lade stressed that as part of the state government's efforts to address the challenges of potable water supply in the area, a new 500KVA 33KW Transformer and two new transferred pumps have been procured and installed.

He emphasized that the Ministry was doing everything possible to ensure that necessary equipment were made available in the shortest possible time in order to alleviate the peoples suffering for water supply.

The Commissioner, however, pledged the state government's resolve to address the insecurity challenges affecting the people of the area, while thanking the visitors for intimating the Ministry and towing the path of dialogue in an effort to surmount the challenges.

Earlier, the President of Ibolo Consumers Advocacy Association of Nigeria, Offa, Engr. Tajudeen Iwalola briefed the Commissioner and his management team that Offa and Oyun Waterworks, which are the major sources of potable water supply for the people of the areas, are currently facing numerous and severe challenges.

Engr. Iwalola explained that the old Waterworks responsible for providing water to communities such as Ipee, Ijagbo, Ajase, and parts of Offa were struggling due to the faulty valves, blowers, and outdated electrical panel.

He stressed that the Bi-water pumps, which are crucial for the supply of water to Offa and its environs have ceased to function due to power supply disconnection by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Iwalola also intimated the Commissioner that they are worried about the indiscriminate number of boreholes drilled by the people in the area as an alternative measure, pointing out that this pose a serious risk to peoples lives as it can results in earthquakes and depletion of groundwater resources.

He appealed to the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the restoration and upgrading of these facilities in order to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of these communities.
