Gov't Condemns Gender Based Violence
Kwara State Government has totally condemned gender based violence across the state, even as it reiterated its stance against acts of violence, targeted in particular at girls and women in the society.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, stated this today, at a closeout meeting, with members of Stand to End Rape Initiative, held at the Training of Trainers Hall, of the Ministry .
Dr. El-Imam emphasized on the fact that, government is doing its best at sensitizing the public on dire consequences of violence against girls and women, warning it is a criminal offense in the State.
The Commissioner called on Kwara residents, to join government in spreading further the awareness, as well as standing against gender based violence.
She expressed a profound gratitude to the Stand to End Rape Initiative members, for their efforts during the sensitization and awareness exercise, encouraging the organization to continue initiating impactful programs, that will benefit the people of Kwara State.
Speaking at the event, the Program Officer, Stand to End Rape Initiative, Mr Hussein Mohammed thanked Kwara State Government and various Agencies, for their unwavering supports, at ensuring the success of the sensitization program, on violence against girls and women folks.
Mr. Mohammed disclosed that the organization had successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness and supporting the fight against violence, targeted against girls and women in the society.
The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, Directors and Gender Based Violence Desk Officers from various Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
