Community Leader Commends World Bank, FG, KWSG on L-PRES Projects

The World Bank, Federal Government, and the Kwara State Government have been commended for the implementation of livestock productivity and resilience support projects (L-PRES) in the state.

A community leader from Gaa Bello, Owode Onire District, Asa Local Government, Alhaji Zubair Bello made the commendation during a stakeholders engagement meeting with the Implementation Unit of the L-PRES Project.

While appreciating the development partners, Alhaji Bello, who thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the provision of potable water supply for both communal and livestock use in the area, pleaded for more social interventions for a better living of the pastoralists and rural dwellers in the state.

Alhaji Bello further assured the State Government and its partners of their commitment and support to the sustainability of the project and other developmental projects in the area.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye said the visit was a follow-up of their promise on improved livestock management through increased productivity, improved income, as well as ensuring social cohesion between farmers and herders in the state.

The Coordinator, represented by the Project Market Linkage and Value Chain Officer, Mr. Oluwaseyi Dara explained further that the meeting is also to inform and sensitize the local cheese producers in livestock value chains on the implementation of the Wara Hub initiative, which would help to increase productivity and profitability in the business. 

According to him, "the initiative would help to reduce post production losses in the cheese business, assist women who are the major players in the sector to have access to finance and increase their profits in the business".

The Project Animal Health Officer, Dr. Bukola Richards urged the livestock owners and local cheese producers to always ensure that they only milk from disease-free cattle in order to prevent transmission of diseases from animals to human beings.

Dr. Richards assured the livestock farmers of the state government's readiness to respond to any form of emergencies noticed in their farm with a view to preventing losses in the sector.
