The initiative behind the execution of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Project, in Kwara State by the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), has been lauded and described as one of the Governor's major ways of rescuing citizens from poverty. 

The State Project Coordinator, Kwara SAPZ Project, Engr. Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, disclosed this today while speaking on the theme "The Concept, Overview, and Impact of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Project in Nigeria: The Role of Agricultural Engineers" at the 17th Quarterly Meeting of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, Kwara State. 

Busari, who explored the concept, PDO (Project Development Objectives), Components and impact of SAPZ; and the roles of Agricultural Engineers in the project, explained that it is envisioned in the project to drive Kwara to a situation "where every hectare of land flowers with abundance, where every farmer is equipped with the tools of progress, and where every community thrives on the fruits of innovation. This is not just a dream; it's the promise of SAPZ..." 

The Coordinator added that the project targets transformation of the agricultural sector by "establishing integrated Agro-Industrial processing zones designed to enhance agricultural productivity, promote value addition, and stimulate economic growth in rural areas. "

He called the attention of his audience to the challenges of low agricultural productivity, limited opportunity for value-addition, marketing incapacity, poor yields in quality and quantity, deficits in infrastructure among others, saying that those problems limit prospects for rural households and threaten national food security. 

He, therefore, noted that SAPZ project is designed to address post-harvest losses, market limitation and inadequate infrastructure. 

Busari further highlighted attraction of private sector investment, technology transfer and promotion of agribusiness development as other benefits of the SAPZ Project. 

Enumerating infrastructure development, technology integration, agro-processing facilities, innovation and research as the roles of Agricultural Engineers in the SAPZ project, Busari charged Agricultural Engineers to seize the opportunity to actively engage with the SAPZ programme and bring about agricultural transformation and Rural development. 

He submitted that with the readiness of the professionals to work in line with the government's initiative, the full potential of SAPZ will be realized to birth a brighter future for the nation's agricultural sector. 

In his opening remarks, the Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (Kwara State Chapter), Engr. Dr. Shuaeeb Nìyí 
Oyewole, pledged the support and solidarity of the association for the successful implementation of the project, expressing the members' readiness to key into the Governor's transformation agenda in the agricultural sector. 

Oyewole also explained that the session was held to share the overview of the SAPZ project and rub minds on how to achieve the set objectives with professionalism. 

The occasion, whose highpoint included the citation of the presenter, had in attendance the Infrastructure Engineer, Kwara SAPZ Project, Engr. Dr. Ariyo Ezekiel Olanrewaju, Director, Agric Engineering Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Engr. Sanni Hamidu Olorin, Secretary, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (Kwara Chapter), Engr. Faizia Uthman, Engr. S. M. Umar, officers from the Kwara Fadama CARES and others.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
