KWSG DISPELS STREET BEGGING WITHIN ILORIN METROPOLIS - Hon. Afolashade

(L-R: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Ayanwale Peter Kayode; Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade; Director, Rehabilitation, Mr Taiye Ikupolati, during the radio briefing at Gerin FM, Ilorin.)

In its continuous stride toward eradicating social insanity within Ilorin metropolis, the Kwara State Government has again dispelled against road side begging and road side hawking as  means to enhance the social well-being of the masses as well as promote habitable environment.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, stated this while featuring on Gerin FM weekly analytical programme "Āō gbàgbéē yín."

Hon. Afolashade explained that the acts of road side begging and hawking, among others, have been over time dispelled by the State Government as crimes against the state, adding that the free lurking of both beggars and mentally derailed persons, road side marketing and similar acts, often times cause dangers and social deface to the state and its citizenry.

Hon. Afolashade further disclosed that certain areas within the interior of Ilorin have been agreeably marked where beggars can reside, if need be; a move which was unanimously agreed by the beggars' representative and the State Government, while warning that whosoever is caught in the act within the metropolis should be ready to face the wrath of the law.

In the same vein, the Commissioner commended the unalloyed support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, towards the aged people, less privileged and people living with disability, in areas of vocational study, financial support, and empowering the beggars through the Ministry.

The Commissioner expressed displeasure at the attitudes of those beggars within the metropolis, which according to her, have caused no good than havoc in the society and damaging the reputation of Kwara State amongst her sister states.

Meanwhile, Hon. Afolashade emphasised the need for collaborative efforts from the State Security Agencies, Parents and all Stakeholders in fighting social menace, to promote robust social economic value and habitable environment,  adding that government cannot do it alone.
