KWARTMA, POLICE TO PARTNER KWSG IN COMBATTING ROADSIDE BEGGING

In its concerted bid to curb the menace of road side begging and its related vices, the Kwara State government has called for a seamless working partnership with Security Agencies in the State.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, made the call during a recent courtesy visit paid to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State.
Hon. Afolashade commended the Kwara State Police Command for its unwavering stride in abating crimes and social unrest in the State, while emphasising the urgent need for the Ministry to form a robust synergy with the establishment in order to fully engage in mass raiding of beggars across Ilorin metropolis.
Hon. Afolashade expressed panic at the alarming increase of road side begging, highlighted its various associated social impunity, while underscoring the exigency of the proposed mass raiding exercise to reel off and restrain the culprits from their strategic locations.
"No doubt, the recent influx of beggars in the State is becoming a red flag that needs urgent proactive measure to guide against breakdown of law and order through perceived illegal activities", she remarked.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ayanwale Peter Kayode, appreciated the Commissioner of Police for hosting the Ministry and the anticipated working collaboration promised.
Responding, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, C.P. Olaiya Victor, applauded the Commissioner and her team for reaching out to the Police Force, ascribed the highlighted issues and the step taken as proactive and commendable.
C.P. Olaiya further disclosed that the Kwara State Police Command, under the present administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been on its toes and already engaged on a close door meeting on a similar crusade in getting the State rid of any social unrest and criminal atrocities, while expressing the Command's readiness to support the noble course, to the best advantage of the State and its citizenry.
In a similar development, the Kwara State government has also called on the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), Ilorin Headquarters, for synergy in combatting road side begging, in areas of apprehension and security support during the raiding exercises and accommodation of the culprits after the exercise.

"I sincerely want to thank the Chief Executive Officer of this establishment for taking time out of his busy schedules to receive our team on our mission to seek robust synergy that engender expected result, as we engage in the planned mass raiding of beggars across Ilorin metropolis", the Commissioner disclosed.
"In furtherance to the above we equally solicited that you take custody of the offenders, and where there is no accommodation, they should be adequately secured wherever the Ministry put them to prevent escape and damages of government properties."
The Commissioner expressed optimism, citing the previous success recorded by the Authority on similar vices like roadside trading/hawking, adding that "the incorporation of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) as the law enforcement Agency in the exercise will make a perfect team and yield best results.
In his response, the Ag. Chief Executive Officer, Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, Engr. Micheal Bamidele, appreciated the Management of the Ministry for its untamed efforts in enforcing the lofty policies of the State towards making the State a haven on earth.
"We appreciate your coming Ma'am and we are not surprised at all as your good humanly social services obviously felt and by the mandate of our establishment as law enforcer, particularly, on human and vehicular movement. We will always be at your service whenever necessary", Engr. Bamidele assured.
On the Commissioner's entourage were the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Mrs. Florence Balogun and other members of staff.
