... Training initiative to ensure effective, quality delivery - Busari 


The Kwara State Government has engaged members of the KW-SAPZ PIU  (Project Implementation Unit) in a capacity-building training which held for five days in Abuja, the training was at the instance of the arrangements for  smooth commencement and planning towards successful implementation of the Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Project in Kwara State. 

Recall that Kwara State is one of the states across the nation that has keyed into the initiative of the SAPZ Project to attract investment and economic opportunities to the State. 

The training was designed to enhance the productivity of the officers concerned by proffering them with the technical skills required to drive the project to fruition. 

Held in Abuja recently, the training workshop had sessions across all the technical sections of the Project Implementation Unit involving topics such as Overview of SAPZ and its Implementation arrangement; SAPZ Infrastructure Development and Management Approach; Introduction to Result-Based Monitoring and Evaluation; Understanding SAPZ M&E Framework; Understanding Internal Audit in Project Implementation and Introduction to Data Management System.

Other areas touched were Introduction to Report Template; Gender Mainstreaming in SAPZ Implementation; Environmental and Social Safeguards Implementation Requirement for SAPZ; Procurement Methods and Procurement Cycle Management; Project Procurement Planning, Risk Management and Reporting; Overview of Financial Management and Disbursement in Donor-Funded Project; Project Specific Financial Management and Disbursement Procedures, Risk Management and Reporting; as well as Agricultural Productivity and Production in SAPZ.

Commending the Kwara State Government for sponsoring the training workshop, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, and Chairperson, State Inter-Agency Technical Committee (SIATC) on Kwara SAPZ Project, Hon.Mrs.Oloruntoyosi Thomas said that SAPZ is one of the remarkable projects in the State and that His Excellency has a good insight to make agricultural industrialisation materialise in Kwara through the SAPZ Programme.

She noted that Governor AbdulRazaq is fully committed to revolutionising the agricultural sector to tackle food security challenges and initiate economic opportunities for the people of the State.

According to her, "Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is not joking with agro-business because he is convinced that a number of opportunities acrue from this enterprise.The training of the Kwara SAPZ Programme PIU is to give necessary capacity to the officers and ensure that proper preparation prevents poor performance." 

Speaking on the significance of the training workshop, the State Project Coordinator, KW-SAPZ, Engr. Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, said that apart from the expertise the trainees had prior to the training workshop, it was expedient of them to be conversant with specific skills required in project implementation.

He then commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the release of fund for and sponsorship of the training, his good discretion and perspicacity in his general disposition to different sectors in terms of performance.

Busari added that one of the laudable hallmarks of the administration of Governor AbdulRazaq was to crave for quality in any project implementation, stating that the best way to achieve the feat was equiping the PIU members with the craft and nitty-gritty of project implementation.

"His Excellency has a taste for quality, and he always means real outstanding outcome that will tremendously impact on the masses for whom every project or initiative in the State is designed." The Governor approved the training workshop for my team so that the officers will deliver the implementation of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Project in Kwara State effectively. This shows that he is a governor with a sense of discernment. With this training workshop, I am strongly of the view that the officers concerned are no longer the same in terms of knowledge upgrade and exposure to project implementation metric. I, therefore, thank His Excellency for this. I pledge the sheer commitment of my team and assure the State and the Governor of quality delivery", the coordinator explained.
