IMBIBE THE CULTURE OF TREE PLANTING: ABDULRAZAQ

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has restated the need for Kwarans to imbibe the culture of tree planting, nurturing, and conservation of the forests for a better environment. 

Governor AbdulRazaq stated this today at the commemoration of the International Day of Forests in Ilorin, Kwara State, saying that the battle against deforestation requires new ideas, collaboration, and support from everyone.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, Governor AbdulRazaq stated that the Government of Kwara is committed to supporting innovations that lead to effective implementations of sustainable environmental strategies for the benefit of residents of Kwara State. 

‘With 10 million hectares lost annually due to deforestation and approximately 70 million hectares affected by fires, these innovations are essential for early warning systems, sustainable commodity production, and empowering indigenous people through land mapping and climate finance access’ he added

He stated further that his administration has taken major strides towards forestry development in the state including payment of counterpart fund of Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Aid Landscape (ACReSAL), projects across the 16 Local Government areas of the State, also inauguration of an inter-ministerial committee on climate change.


It would be recalled that the Governor in his bid to fight deforestation inaugurated a Task Force committee on the prohibition of charcoal production in the state to curb the menace of illegal tree felling. 

He emphasized that Protecting the forests helps mitigate against some of the human health-related effects of climate change by acting as carbon sinks that regulate the planet's temperature and regulate water flows.

In his address, the State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Sheu Ndanusa Usman, thanked the Governor for throwing his full weight behind afforestation in Kwara State. 

He said in the crucial task of achieving sustainable forest management, technology including satellite data, and drone imagery, among other cutting-edge tools will revolutionize the tracking and monitoring of deforestation.

He added that since the beginning of this administration, several innovations have emerged including the rehabilitation and remodeling of Flower Garden which has gained international recognition, the city beautification and greening projects across the Metropolis among others.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024. In a statement issued by the Ministry today in Ilorin, all Private Primary Schools are to come to the  Quality Assurance Bureau Headquarter's office, Ilorin, for their pupils registration of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) materials with evidence of payment of their taxes.
