The Kwara State Government has again asurred the people of the state of its determination to continue to provide adequate water supply to all noocks and crannies of the state.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade gave the assurance in his office when the management of the General Hospital, Ilorin, paid him a courtesy visit.

He assured that the Ministry will do everything humanly possible to improve water supply to the hospital.

Hon. Lade explained that much as people and institutions would want improvement in water supply in their areas, he advised the customers to reciprocate the gesture by paying their water bills to compliment the state government huge investment in the water sector.

Asa Dam water works alone, the Commissioner stressed, had gulped millions of naira recently in an effort to put it back into proper shape.

Lade emphasized that people should begin to disabuse their minds from seeing water as a free commodity, pointing out that the cost of maintenance of the facilities and sustainability in addition to the challenges of power supply is fast becoming unbearable.

He, however, advised the hospital management team to look inwards by paying its water bill to the State Water Corporation for continuous sustainability and improvement in the facilities.

Lade also thanked the team for the visit, assuring the hospital of the Ministry's support, especially as it is a live-saving institution.

Speaking during the visit, the Director, Water Engineering Services, Engr. Yusuf Wopa said the Ministry was aware when the line supplying water to that axis had the challenges of valves, which had since been fixed.

He promised that the State Water Corporation would redouble its efforts at providing them with adequate water supply while also appealing to the hospital management to pay its bills promptly for the services provided.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the General Hospital, Ilorin, Dr. Bola Ahmed, who led the team, disclosed that the purpose of the visit was to commend the Ministry for improved water supply to Ilorin metropolis and General Hospital in particular.

The CMD solicited the Ministry’s support to increase and improve water supply, especially now that the population of those patronising the hospital keeps on increasing.

Dr. Ahmed said to prevent people from being infected with diseases, particularly the relatives of patients who visit the hospital to take care of their loved ones, the environment must be clean which can only be carried out with regular water supply.
