COMMISSIONER COMMENDS KWSG ON CAPACITY BUILDING FOR PRESS SECRETARIES
The Kwara State Government has been commended for its commitment to ensuring efficiency in service delivery through constant capacity building of its workforce.
The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju gave this commendation at a 2-Day Training Workshop for Information Officers/PRO in Kwara State, organized by the Office of the Head of Service in Ilorin, the state capital.
Olukoju, who appreciated the Governor on behalf of Information Officers in the state, said, "I extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose unwavering commitment to human capital development has made this workshop possible.
"It is his zeal and dedication to the progress of our state that motivates initiatives like this, aimed at equipping us with the tools necessary to excel in our respective roles", the Commissioner stated
On the focus of the training, Olukoju disclosed that the training will focus on three major areas.
"First, we will explore strategies to enhance our ability to convey information clearly, accurately, and persuasively to the public. Second, you will learn valuable techniques for managing crises effectively and safeguarding public trust even in the face of adversity.
"Lastly, as representatives of the government, you are held to a high standard of professionalism and decorum. Here, you will learn the proper etiquette of the profession", she added.
The Commissioner also charged the participants "to engage the facilitators and seize the opportunity of the training to learn, grow, and ultimately, better serve the good people of Kwara State", she stated further.
Addressing the participants, the National President, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ikechukwu Neliaku shared his career progression with them, while also encouraging them to use the training to learn and grow in the field of public relations management.
In his remarks, the Consultant, Triumph Corporate Limited, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin welcomed the participants to the training and assured them that they would leave the venue better than they came.
Alh. Adedoyin, who is also a former Commissioner for Information in the State, explained that "this event is a continuation of a similar initiative approved by His Excellency in 2022, which focused on improving writing skills of press secretaries".
The training session witnessed papers presentations by experts including the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju who taught the participants on "Leveraging Social Media For Public Communication"; the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye who spoke on "Crisis Management Skills" and lastly, the former Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of NIPR and current Council Member of the Association, Dr. Saudat AbdulBaqi, who delivered a lecture on "Application of Public Relations Strategies for Consensus Building by Information Officers".
Earlier, the State Director of Information Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere had appreciated the organizer for the smooth coordination of the programme, disclosing that there was discernible improvement in the service delivery of press secretaries as a result of the first initiative in 2022.
