The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Abdulazeez Kola Abdulganiy has reiterated the State government's commitment to reposition the energy sector in the State by generating power for itself according to the Nigeria Electricity Act of 2023 in order to ensure an efficiently managed electricity generation, transmission and distribution that will adequately promote socio-economic growth in Kwara State.

Engr. Abdulganiy stated this while receiving the delegations of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), who paid a courtesy visit, in his office.

The Electricity Act signed into law by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the 9th of June 2023, gives the States the power to regulate their own electricity markets, grant licenses to private investors to build power plants, establish distribution networks, operate mini-grids and distribute power in order to create State Electricity Market (SEM) and to integrate renewable energy into the existing energy mix in the States.
While assuring the Agency of the Ministry's partnership, the Commissioner appealed to the delegation to work as a team with the Ministry in order to achieve the set goals.
The Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaji Hassan Taiye Afodun, praised the team for the initiative and assured them of the State's partnership.

Earlier, the Kwara State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mrs. Aremu Zainab Arike, also called for collaboration with the Ministry for proper regulation of the environmental law in the energy sector.
She said “the purpose of this regulation is to prevent pollution and encourage efficiency in operations of the energy sector in order to achieve sustainable economic development.”
The Coordinator added that “the regulation is also to carry out environmental assessment and to minimize environmental pollution."
The Chief Scientific Officer, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mr. Audu Mayowa, further explained the Agency carry out inspection on any new project, to check if it is environmental friendly and to reduce global warming in the State.
Present at the meeting were the Controller of Finance and Account, Mr. Akeem Idris; Ag. Director, Electrical Engineering, Engr. Dada Fisayo; Assistant Chief Engineer, NESREA, Engr. Zubair Abdulateef, among others.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
