GARMENT FACTORY: A STEP TOWARDS ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION - OLUKOJU

The Kwara Garment Factory, a flagship initiative of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been described as a significant step towards economic diversification and job creation in the state.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, made this disclosure during a recent visit to the Managing Director of the Factory, Hajia Olubukola Kifayat Adedeji, during the week.

Olukoju emphasized the fact that the factory reflects the government's dedication to promoting a thriving industrial landscape to address unemployment challenges, especially among Kwara youths.

She stated further that, "this Government is intentional about changing the narrative of the state from a 'civil servant state' to an industrial state, where the economy thrives on industrial activities, while also keeping our youths productively engaged," she remarked.

"There are many other ongoing projects in which the AbdulRazaq-led administration has embarked upon to complement the state's journey to an industrial hub. These include the Kwara Visual Arts Centre, Kwara Innovation Hub, and the Kwara Sugar Film Factory," she added.

In her remarks, the Managing Director of the Factory, Hajia Adedeji, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the visit, assuring her of a strong partnership with the Ministry.

Providing insights into the factory's progress, Hajia Kifayat disclosed that "570 sewing machines have been installed, along with a cutting machine capable of cutting 10,000 polo shirts per 8-hour shift, making it the first of its kind in the whole of West Africa. In addition, a 9-colour, 12-hands embroidery machine, capable of 1,000 stitches per minute, has been installed and is undergoing pre-commissioning tests, while the contractors are doing everything possible to put the place in shape ahead of the official commissioning of the factory."

Hajia Adedeji emphasized the labour-intensive nature of the garment factory, highlighting its potential to significantly reduce unemployment rates and enhance the livelihood of individuals in the state.

She further pointed out that the presence of a garment factory like this could stimulate entrepreneurship, encouraging the establishment of small businesses related to the industry, such as retail outlets, supply chain services, and ancillary support services.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
