KWSG PLEDGES MEDIA SUPPORT TO VDI'S INCLUSIVE ADVOCACY PROJECT

The Kwara State Government has pledged media support for the upcoming Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) project, aimed at advancing sexual and reproductive health, as well as the rights of women and girls with disabilities, to safeguard their human rights in society.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, made this pledge during the week when the Executive Director of VDI, Barrister Catherine Edeh EQS, and her team paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner's office.

Hon. Olukoju described the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as all-inclusive, emphasizing equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of their status, evident in the appointment of people with disabilities to key positions as Permanent Secretaries and Special Adviser in his gender-balanced progressive government.

The Commissioner applauded the decision of His Excellency to hold the first-ever budget review of his administration at the School of Special Needs, Apata-Yakuba in Ilorin, attributing it to the Governor's passion for the cause of people with disabilities.

Hon. Olukoju expressed the Governor's confidence in the abilities of people with disabilities, adding that the Governor sees abilities in their disabilities.

Expressing appreciation for choosing Kwara State as one of the project locations, the commissioner assured the VDI team of her Ministry's necessary support for the project at all times.

In his remarks, the State Director of Information Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere, underlined the pivotal role of media in driving positive change.

He stated, "Media plays a crucial role in shaping societal perspectives. We recognise the power of information to not only inform but also transform attitudes and foster inclusivity. This collaborative effort exemplifies our collective commitment to building a society where the voices of every individual, especially those with disabilities, are heard, respected, and integrated into the fabric of public discourse."

Earlier, the Executive Director of VDI, Barr. Catherine Edeh, ESQ, who expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Government for enacting a law protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, outlined the key components of the 2-year project, which will also be implemented in Enugu and Ebonyi States in due course.

According to her, "The project focuses on capacity building for healthcare providers, sensitisation of women and girls with disabilities on sexual and reproductive health and rights, training on rights-based advocacy, evidence gathering, documentation of rights violations, and sensitisation of traditional rulers on related issues."

She further disclosed that the project signifies a significant step forward in promoting and advocating the rights of women and girls with disabilities.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024. In a statement issued by the Ministry today in Ilorin, all Private Primary Schools are to come to the  Quality Assurance Bureau Headquarter's office, Ilorin, for their pupils registration of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) materials with evidence of payment of their taxes.
