COMPLY WITH GUNSHOT ACT: GOVT CHARGES MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS

Kwara State government has charged medical practitioners across the state, to henceforth comply with the Gunshot Act of 2017, to enable them treat people with gunshot injuries, without any hindrance whatsoever, as they are legally backed up to do so. 

The State Commissioner for Health Dr.Amina Ahmed El-lmam, gave this charge to health workers in Ilorin, this week, while addressing the press, in her Office.

She noted that this has became necessary to forestall unnecessary loss of lives, especially that of the innocents, emanating from injuries sustained as a result of painful and agonising torments associated with gunshots. 

In view of the above, El-lmam further instructed health personnels that correspondences emanating from the office of Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun on the subject matter be given wide dissemination to the public, health practitioners, respective Administrators and members of the communication industry. 

''We cannot lay claim at ensuring Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for the people, under the leadership of our amiable Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, without protecting the entire citizens and ensuring compliance with the enabling laws, especially this one that permits treatment of gunshot victims, without necessarily getting a police report first, as in the past,'' the Commissioner explained. 

"As a matter of fact, we need to ensure that both government and private hospitals are duly aware of the law guiding compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshots as contained in the Act,'' she added. 

Dr El-Imam therefore enjoined medical practitioners to be more compassionate and empathic while discharging their duties, as being kind to humanity is part of their trainings and professional ethics.

For emphasis, the circular in reference originated from the office of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, dated 25th October, 2023, with reference no. CB.3383/IGP.SEC/ABJ/Vol.60/336 captioned 'COMPULSORY TREATMENT AND CARE FOR VICTIMS OF GUNSHOT ACT 2017' and signed by CP Olatunji R. Disu.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
