KWSG TO PARTNER NGOs ON SOCIAL SERVICE TO THE ELDERLY

The Kwara State Government has stated its commitment towards partnering with Non-Governmental Organisations in order to ensure efficient social service delivery to all and sundry, including the elderly across the State.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, stated this during a recent meeting with a Non-Governmental Organisation called De-Pals Foundation, at the Ministry.

While responding to the Team, Hon. Afolashade admitted to the assertion that there are various laws protecting women and female gender-based violence and abuse, but less attention has been given to the elderly as regards care, conflict and personal abuse.

The Commissioner, who disclosed to the team that the Ministry is already working towards the establishment of welfare home, for the elderly, describing it as a welcome development, with an assurance that sensitisation on the programme will be intensified for wider dissemination to the public.

"Your visit is very crucial and tends to promote social welfare for the aged ones. Truly, much has not been done with regards aged ones, but the good news is that, this administration is very much passionate about the well-being of the entire citizens of the State. We will therefore deepen our efforts towards the domestication of the same act into law, at the State level, as obtainable at the Federal," she added.

Hon. Afolashade commended the visiting NGO, De-Pals Foundation, for its services to humanity, urging the members of the Foundation not to back down in their efforts to make life comfortable for the elderly.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Kayode Ayanwale lauded the initiatives of De-Pals Foundation, aimed at serving the people, assuring the Foundation of the Ministry's support, whenever the need arises.

Furthermore, the Director, Social Welfare, Mr. Kayode David James revealed that the Ministry is very much conversant with De-Pals Foundation, its activities and affiliation with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters Management and Social Development, but this programme is yet to be domesticated at the State level.

Earlier, the Team Leader, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Haija Asmau Yusuf disclosed that the Foundation is established to cater for the well-being of the aged in the society.

Hajia Yusuf stressed further that the Foundation is equally concerned about providing legal supports for the elderly in case of any abuse and conflict matters, adding that the Foundation is an affiliate of a Directorate under Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

 Hajia Yusuf mentioned the fact that elderly in our society today, are being neglected thereby facing all sort of abuses, but are unable to speak out.

 According to her; "We designed our programme and tailored it to cater for the needs of elderly persons in our society and we have come to seek for areas of collaborations, to put the Foundation in a better position, to serve the people, as expected." 

Present at the meeting were the Director, Personel, Finance and Supply, Mrs. Folashade Idowu; Director, Rehabilitation, Mr. Taiye Ikupolati; and Controller, Finance and Account, Alhaji Razaq Momonu.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024. In a statement issued by the Ministry today in Ilorin, all Private Primary Schools are to come to the  Quality Assurance Bureau Headquarter's office, Ilorin, for their pupils registration of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) materials with evidence of payment of their taxes.
