KWSG Sets to Commence Campaign on Malaria Prevention



The Kwara State  Government is set to commence a door to door malaria prevention campaign aimed at improving the health status of Kwara residents, to rid the State of malaria.

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, stated this during the week, when the Society for Family Health Team paid her an advocacy visit in her office.

While addressing the Team, Hon. Olukoju appealed to citizens to embrace the distribution of Seasonal Malaria Chemo Prevention Drugs, being an opportunity to prevent malaria and be free of same as an individual.

According to her, "the programme is the first of its kind which is aimed at distributing Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) and administering Sulphadoxine-Pyrimethamine as well as Amodiaquine (SPAQ) to eligible children." 

She emphasised the importance of Seasonal Malaria Chemo Preventions and assured the Team of full support to ensure the success of the initiative.

The Commissioner also expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has consistently shown unwavering commitments to a standard healthcare delivery to the people of Kwara State.

Earlier, the Technical Director, Seasonal Malaria Chemo Prevention (SMC), Mr. John Ocholi,  informed the Commissioner that the programme would be flagged off on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, with the distribution of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs), administration of Sulphadoxine-Pyrimethamine and Amodiaquine (SPAQ) to children, starting from Thursday, October 19, 2023. 

"This campaign exercise will be a door-to-door activity across the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State", he added.

Mr. Ocholi also seized the opportunity to disclose the fact that training for the exercise has commenced, to ensure its success.

Present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad; Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Hajia Salamat Yahaya; Director, Information Services, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Atere; and Director, Public Orientation, Alhaji Jimoh Salau.
