Olukoju Tours Government owned Media Houses: says Governor Activities underreported

The State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, over the weekend toured all the Kwara State Government owned media houses and Kwara State Advertisement Agency for on the spot assessments of the facilities, with the major aim of identifying the prospect of these critical institution.

The tour was sequel to the meeting held during the week with all the General Managers of the media houses and the Agency, wherein the Commissioner was briefed on the challenges and prospects of the media outfits.

The Commissioner and   along with the Management staff of the ministry commenced the tour with a visit to Kwara State Television Authority, where they were received by the station's management, led by the newly appointed General Manager, Alhaji Ayobami Akanbi.

Addressing the staff, Hon. Olukoju reaffirmed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to supporting the media for effective operation.

Hon. Olukoju commended the dedication of the Agency's staff in the face of noticeable challenges, assuring them of the Governor's continued support.

At the Kwara State Printing and Publications, publishers of The Herald news paper, The Commissioner acknowledged its potentials to become the primary print media outlet in the North Central region, even as she praised the Governor's ongoing efforts at elevating the newspaper to higher levels.

Expressing concern about the underreporting of government activities, Hon. Olukoju charged the General Managers to expand coverage by transitioning to digital media, for increased accessibility.

Hon. Olukoju assured them that the challenges impeding their performances will immediately be conveyed to the Governor, with the aim of finding a lasting solution to them. 

Earlier, the General Manager of Kwara State Television, Alhaji Ayobami Akanbi gave kudos to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for saving the station from collapse, by releasing funds to refurbish and restock the  station with State of the Arts equipments and also acknowledged the procurement of procurement of a 10kva Solar system for the newsroom.

He added that lack of operational vehicles is a major challenge facing the establishment.

 The General Manager,  Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, Midland FM, Mr. Tajudeen Aremu, who took the Commissioner and her team round the facilities noted that the positive impact of the Governor AbdulRazaq's  previous interventions on the stations, resulted to the wider reach, extended the operational hours thereby increased the revenue drive of the station. 

Mr. Aremu however identified persistent power supply and inadequate operational vehicles as major challenges, "if addressed, will enable the stations to increase its internally generated revenue.

To address the problem of office accommodation, Aremu suggested that FM station staff could temporarily relocate to the AM Station's GRA office and stressed the need to procure a Studio Transmitter Link to connect the two stations before relocating.


The team proceeded to Kwara State Signage and Advertising Agency, where the Agency's Secretary, Alhaji Ismail Asukuti welcomed them and showed them round the Agency's facilities and  identified challenges facing them which include lack of operational vehicles, limiting their operations to only four Local Government Areas within the state and inadequate office accommodation.

The last Agency visited was Kwara State Printing and Publishing Corporation,  Publisher of The Herald Newspaper, where the reappointed General Manager Mr. Yomi Adeboye piloted them round the facility with an appreciation to the Governor for the positive changes his efforts have yielded in the Corporation.


Those in the entourage of the Commissioner were: the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply, Hajia Yahaya Salamat Mohammed,  the Director of Information, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere and other principal officers of the ministry.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
