Press Secretaries in Kwara State Urged to Prioritise Timely Reporting of Government Activities

Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju has charged Press Secretaries across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritize timely reporting of government activities in their respective places of primary assignment, warning that delay in filing reports will no longer be tolerated.

Hon. Olukoju gave the charge today, during her inaugural interface with Press Secretaries and Information Officers, held at the conference room of the ministry.

The Commissioner used the opportunity of the meeting to obtain firsthand insights into the roles and challenges facing Press Secretaries in the performance of their duties.

Highlighting the importance of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's position as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum, Olukoju stressed the need for wider media coverage of His Excellency's activities in the state as a whole.

Drawing from her vast experience as a seasoned communication expert, she stressed further that, "Press Secretaries are responsible for shaping the narratives of the events they covered, therefore timely publication is essential to maintain control over the narratives, but if another source publishes the story first, the narration may eventually be in the negative. Henceforth, your reports should be ready within two hours of the event".

The Commissioner encouraged the Press Secretaries to establish a strong working relationship with their respective Commissioners, advising them to always document their requests to their Principals whenever the need arises.

She also charged them to always uphold professionalism in their physical appearances at their duty posts, reiterating her openness to suggestions and positive ideas capable of moving the state forward.

In his opening remarks, the recently redeployed Permanent Secretary to the Ministry, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, emphasized the importance of punctuality and dedication to duties by staff, assuring them of his support to ensure huge success in their reportorial endeavours.

Earlier, the Press Secretaries took turns to introduce themselves to the Commissioner and seized the opportunity to articulate the challenges facing them in their respective MDAs.

In his vote of thanks, the Director of Information Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere expressed his profound gratitude to the Commissioner for the interface, with a promise to hit the ground running as far as reporting government activities is concerned.
