Olukoju Calls for Cultural Renaissance and Tourism Boost in Kwara State

A call has been made to the Kwara State Hospitality and Tourism Development Board to intensify its efforts in promoting festivals within the state to attract a larger number of tourists, both locally and internationally, with the aim of boosting the state’s revenue.

The Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, made this call in Ilorin earlier this week during a familiarisation visit to the Board.

Olukoju stated, "To genuinely showcase the rich culture of Kwara State, we must proactively promote our cultural heritage, as the state is naturally endowed and has an abundance of tourist attractions to offer. It is, therefore, imperative that we raise necessary awareness about it."

"Let’s focus on attracting participants from both within and outside the state," she added.

Regarding Cultural festivals in the state, Olukoju suggested that prominent individuals from regions where these festivals take place should be encouraged to become ambassadors of such festivals to enhance the visibility of the events.

"We need to emphasise the significance of local ownership of these festivals and make them appealing to outsiders by encouraging their participation," she stated.

Hon. Olukoju also assured the Board that the Ministry would explore opportunities for private sector engagement through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives to revitalise all the state’s tourist attractions.

She commended the staff of the Board for sustaining its operations despite challenges, assuring them of this administration’s commitment to the upliftment of the state’s tourist attractions.


In her remarks, the General Manager of the Board, Mrs Bolaji Onietan, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner and the Management team of the Ministry for the visit, with an assurance that the entire staff of the Board will not relent in fulfilling its mandate.

Those in the Commissioner’s entourage include the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply, Hajia Yahaya Salamat Mohammed; the Director of Information Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Atere; the Director of Public Orientation, Alhaji Olayinka Jimoh Salau, and other principal staff of the ministry.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024.
