NG-CARES Beneficiaries Commend Gov. AbdulRazaq Over 50% Increment in Stipend

Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received commendation over the 50% increment in the monthly stipends of beneficiaries of Labour Intensive Public Workfare (LIPW), under the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) intervention. 

The commendation came from beneficiaries of NG-CARES Programme in Baruten Local Government during the monthly Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Exercise in the area for the month of September, 2023.

The beneficiaries, who had earlier been validated and enrolled into the Public Workfare Programme, following the successful completion of their documentation, expressed gratitude to the governor for taking them out of poverty through the NG-CARES intervention programme.

A total of 5,348 beneficiaries are expected to participate in the second batch of the programme across the 16 Local Government Councils, which kicked off about two months ago, after the first batch of 1,025 beneficiaries were exited, following the successful completion of their one year mandatory tenure.

The import of the monthly monitoring exercise, is to interact with the beneficiaries, evaluate their performances at work, find out their challenges and proffer possible solutions, and finally take them through the rudiments of life skill training to prepare them ahead of their eventual disengagement from the scheme after one year.

By the design of the programme, selected beneficiaries were deployed in July 2023, to clean and maintain public institutions and utilities in their immediate environment for four hours daily, and 20 days in a month excluding public holidays and weekends, for a monthly stipend of #15,000.

The monthly stipend of the beneficiaries hitherto was #10,000 until Governor AbdulRazaq, in his magnanimity and consideration for the fuel subsidy removal, reviewed it upward to #15,000 with effect from July, 2023.

As at the time of filing this report from Okuta in Baruten Local Government, the Technical Head of LIPW Delivery Platform, Alh. Shamsideen Aregbe, and the Project Accountant, Mrs. Yemisi Otepola, who spoke with the team on phone, confirmed that beneficiaries who had completed their banking documentation have all received alerts for their July and August monthly stipends in the sum of #30,000 each.

Salihu Yunusa, a beneficiary from Bankubu-Guru community, who spoke to us on behalf of his colleagues, confirmed that payment had begun in earnest, appreciating the state government for empowering the youths and removing them from the shackles of poverty.

Communities visited during the monthly monitoring exercise include Bankubu-Guru, Tembonu-Okuta, Alafiaru, Kiya yeru, and Werakoku, among others.

The State-wide monitoring exercise, which commenced today, Monday, September 25, is expected to be rounded off on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection
