Fake News: Olukoju Cautions Bloggers

Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, has issued a stern warning to bloggers and online media journalists, to be wary of fake news and refrain from spreading such to avoid violation of media laws. 

Olukoju delivered this cautionary message today when she featured on a Kwara Television Authority Program - AM Drive, where she also discussed other issues bothering on government, communications and policies.

She emphasized that the dissemination of false information poses significant threats to the state's development and can potentially incite violence.

Regarding the proliferation of fake news, Hon. Olukoju said , "to combat the spread of fake news in the state, the Ministry of Communications is recommending that bloggers, online journalists, and traditional media outlets source their stories exclusively from the Ministry and Government House verified social media pages. This approach aims at ensuring that public receives accurate and verified information."

All government activities will be officially posted on these platforms and any information not originating from them should be treated as fake news. Bloggers are encouraged to prioritize factual reporting. If it doesn't come from government, it shouldn't be presented as such." She added.

The Commissioner also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his inclusive approach to governance, which includes appointing individuals with disabilities as Permanent Secretaries and maintaining gender balance in appointments, emphasizing that this reflects the governor's commitment to an inclusive governance.

Furthermore, Hon. Olukoju expressed her commitment at promoting the state's rich tourist attractions as a means to boost the local economy, while also disclosing initiatives aimed at enhancing communication with residents in rural areas, such as radio broadcasts and public address system van for public orientation at market places and motor parks.

Regarding her recent visit to the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Sulu Gambari CFR, the Commissioner explained that purpose of the was to receive his royal blessings and prayers, underscoring the government's dedication to fostering strong relationships with traditional leaders in the state.

Speaking on her recent tour of the state-owned media Houses, Hon. Olukoju praised His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the ongoing reforms in state-owned media houses, while also assuring that addressing the challenges faced by these media houses would be a top priority, reaffirming the government's commitment to enhancing the state's media infrastructure.

KWASSIP Opens Application Portal for Kwapreneur 5.0

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) is excited to announce the opening of the online application portal for the fifth edition of the Kwapreneur initiative (Kwapreneur 5.0). Common Entrance Materials: KWSG Directs JSS Principals, Headteachers of PPS To Report for Collection

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all Principals of Junior Secondary Schools and Head-Teachers of all Public Primary Schools across the state to report at the Quality Assurance Bureau Zonal Offices in their area for the collection of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) registration materials as from Monday 1st July, 2024. In a statement issued by the Ministry today in Ilorin, all Private Primary Schools are to come to the  Quality Assurance Bureau Headquarter's office, Ilorin, for their pupils registration of Placement Examination (Common Entrance Examination) materials with evidence of payment of their taxes.
