KWSG Pledges Support for Awon Mass Wedding


The Kwara State Government has pledged support for the forthcoming Awon Mass Wedding in Shao, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Awon is a popular festival in Sao during which all the young girls of marriageable age in the community are given out in marriage all at once.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Olabode George Towoju made this pledge  while receiving the representatives of the Shao Community Development Association who paid him a courtesy visit in his office today

Hon. Towoju described the Governor as a " chronic lover of culture and traditions. He exhibits passion for promotion of Kwara heritage and that is why he has not only personally visited several festivals but also supported them.

" His Excellency believes that our culture must be preserved and revered so that our children would have something to be proud of. This administration will always support events that showcase the beauty of our State's culture and heritage.

Towoju further assured the visitors of the Governor support for a successful festival, saying " The Governor loves and cares about the people of Shao and just as he has been doing since he came on board, he will support this year celebration as well."

Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary of the Cultural Committee of the Association, Dr. Reuben Akani appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for always hearken the call of the Association for support for the festival, as he solicited for more in the forthcoming event.

The Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs Christianah Omolola Asonibare who gave the closing remarks thanked the visitors for acknowledging the support of the Government and prayed that the forthcoming event would be a success.
